Environmental & Sustainability Efforts
Biodegradable Adhesives
For the past few years, we’ve been exploring how to significantly reduce the biodegradation cycle of hot melts. Our first major step in achieving this goal is the creation of Tecbond 214B, our first ever fully-certified biodegradable hot melt adhesive.
Furthermore, this proprietary technology allows Power Adhesives to make almost any of its products biodegradable, offering huge potential to scale through its range and beyond. The company is currently putting together a programme of products for which it could introduce new biodegradable versions over the next 12-24 months.
Waste Reduction
Alongside reducing the impact our products have at the end of their life cycle, we’re consistently researching and implementing company policies to reduce our production and energy waste. Increasing our recyclability has been key to minimising our waste, with the recent acquisition of a baler being the company’s latest adjustment to processes.
To reduce applicator disposal, we’ve recently introduced a new scheme that sees old and outdated tools that have been returned in part exchange, or handed back due to age, being repaired and passed onto community projects or charities. These charities are given basic training on how to use the tools along with a supply of relevant adhesive.
Sustainable Sourcing
Wherever possible, our adhesives are manufactured using renewable or bio-based raw materials. Over a third of the resins that go into our hot melts are sustainably sourced, a number we’re hoping to increase over the coming years.
One of our short-term goals is to transition away from plastic cases and packaging in favour of cardboard cartons for all our applicators.
Community Projects
Alongside our own internal efforts to become a more sustainable business, we’re working with other local businesses and non-profit organisations to positively impact the local community.
One of our leading projects is the tool recycling and renewal scheme. Many old tools that have been exchanged for new equipment are saved, repaired and given to different community projects. This not only benefits charitable organisations who may not be able to afford high-end equipment, but it keeps our products from ending up in landfill.
Global Standards Practices
In October of 2023, we have achieved several ISO certifications including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2021, reflecting our commitment to quality management and environmental stewardship. These recognised standards confirm our dedication to improving operational efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and delivering high-quality products.
Additionally, EcoVadis has recognised our corporate social responsibility, placing us in the top 15% of companies globally. This honour highlights our efforts in sustainability, waste reduction, and ethical practices throughout our supply chain. We are committed to maintaining high standards for environmental and social performance and continuously improving all aspects of our business.
